The home of the tango is La Plata Bay, located on the border of Uruguay and Argentina. Here, in the 1880s, this amazing dance emerged. It was danced in the port areas of the cities, which were a fusion of cultures. In the early twentieth century, the dance spread to Europe and the United States. It is noteworthy that the tango as a phenomenon was recognized as an intangible cultural heritage of the region.

Currently, there are several varieties of dance:

Uruguayan and Argentine tango (divided into tango, waltz, and milonga);
ballroom tango.

The so-called Brazilian tango and the Finnish tango stand apart. The ballroom version of this passionate dance is characterized by a higher speed of movement and lack of improvisation.

Tango music is a mixture of African, South American, and European motifs. It is based on a steady, slow rhythm of four-quarter size. It is partly reminiscent of a march.

Currently, among the musical instruments for performing tango there are no drums and other percussion, although originally the dance was performed with them. But bandoneon, a mixture of organ and accordion of German origin, which has become a hallmark of the dance, is actively used. In addition, flute, guitar, and violin are used in classical tango compositions.

Guitar duets, lead guitar, and orchestras are often used to accompany the tango.
